Overview
Crmnica is the region in Montenegro, from ancient times known for its wine. In this area, next to the production of grapes and wine, locals also produce other healthy products – food and fruits and develop rural tourism. This tour, in organization of Monte Mare Travel brings you enjoying traditional wine cellars in Crmnica region in Montenegro. You will see four rural vineyards in Crmnica area – for all lovers of wine, brandy and local cuisine this rural ambience is the right choice. You will be able to taste different sorts of wine in the ‘homeland of the grapes’. We will begin this tour visiting winery Garnet, continuing with winery Cermeniza, winery Mašanović and winery Kopitović. Let’s enjoy wine, food and unrepeatable ambience!
At first, we will visit Winery Garnet - the stone house where the hosts process and keep their wines (at least five centuries old), surrounded with similar style and age houses, forming the unique settlement that State of Montenegro has designated as the Heritage Site – Historical Hamlet of Godinje.
On the terrace of the old family home, the host first welcomes the guests.
You will have an opportunity to taste three domestic wines, three liqueurs and brandy. – During approx. 1 hour.
The traditional way they "bake" brandy in old-fashioned kettles is especially interesting to visitors.
Next, we go to the Winery Cermeniza that combines traditional montenegrin hospitality with modern amenities. It is nestled on the top of the hill, in the heart of the most famous wine region in Montenegro, Crmnica with a panoramic view on the Skadar Lake.
You will enjoy two hundred years old (5.000 square meters) vineyards and wine tasting at their rustic wine cellar.
On a tour through centuries-old vineyards, the oldest member of the family – the grandfather, will share his knowledge about their finest wines. You will feel the atmosphere, the culture and the spirit of the long tradition in the exquisite wine production.
The combination of stone and wood gives our wine cellar the best conditions for keeping the wine at its optimal temperature.
Tasting: ‘Cermeniza’ barique, ‘Cermeniza’ red wine, ‘Cermeniza’ white wine and 5 types of brandy – approx. 1 hour.
Firstly, you will visit ‘Winery Mašanović’, located in located in Orahovo field in Crmnica, near Skadar Lake, at an altitude of 10 meters. The vineyard is located a kilometer away from the winery itself, at the place that Ivan Crnojević once used as a summer house. In addition, the cellar of the winery Mašanović is located next to the former vineyard and the cellar of King Nikola.
Vranac is an autochthonous Montenegrin variety, but in the vineyard of Mašanovići grows the grapes "Kratošija", "Marselan", "Petit Verdot", "Cabernet Sauvignon", "Sangiovese" with grapes aged between 5 and 40 years.
Winery Mašanović produces black wines "Crmnički Vranac Barrique" and "Krin Barrique", as well as small quantities of brandy, fruit brandies of: peach, kiwi, apples, pomegranate, plums and quinces, local juices made from fruit from their orchards.
After seeing and listening about wine production, we will have snack and beverages degustation – 1h 30 min.
Snack: dry figs, nuts, homemade bread, prosciutto, kulen, cheese from spice oil, goat cheese.
Beverages: 3 types of premium red wines (Krin (Dry), Dionis (Dry), Tre Sorelle (Natural Sweet), 2 types of Fruit Brandy of your choice (grape, plum, quince, apple, kiwi, pomegranate, pear) or 2 types of liqueurs (walnut and cherry).
All products are home made.

After visiting Mašanović winery, we are heading to Kopitović winery, situated in village Donji Brčeli, not far from Skadar lake, at an altitude of 300 m. The village is famous because Balšići raised their endowments, in the 17th century. Bishop Danilo built his winter residence the Monastery of Petrović, in the 15th century. Jelena Balšić built the Monastery in Donji Brčelj, within which it is located church of Saint Nikola with the burial of Emperor Šćepan Mali.
Kopitović family settled in Donji Brčeli in the 15th century and has been engaged in the cultivation of vines and the production of red wines from autochthonous varieties.
Within the house there is a tavern over three hundred years old which was used for the production and preservation of wine and brandy. Wine is produced in limited quantities because they want to achieve good quality.
Within the family home, an authentic-style authentic restaurant has been created where you will have the opportunity to taste local wine and brandy as well as local traditional cuisine.
After seeing and listening about wine production, we will have a wine tasting – approx. 1 hour.
