Overview

Montenegro is a small country in southeast Europe, in the west of the Balkans, but very famous about its incredible nature beauties. In this arrangement, ’’Monte Mare Travel’’ agency brought together wonderful cities at the seaside and mountain towns in the north, as well as the cruising on the largest lake in the Balkans – Skadar lake and visits to the most famous monasteries. In order to meet our customers, we have arranged a package where you will be able to see and experience the best of Montenegro for 7 days.

Budva dates back 3,450 years ago and is one of the oldest cities on the Adriatic Sea. Budva has a large number of cultural and historical monuments, monasteries and churches that document the historical and social events in the area of ​​the Budvanska Riviera. The most famous part of the city walls is called Citadel and is an interesting tourist attraction. It is also known for its sandy beaches, night life, the area of ​​hotels and restaurants… Budva, also called ‘’Queen of Adriatic’’, is a prestigious destination on the tourist map of Europe and the world.

Vrmac is a mountain and peninsula in Montenegro. The highest peak of this mountain is St. Ilija – 785 m above sea level. It is located between Kotor and Tivat bay, so it is not difficult to assume that from the mountain it is a wonderful view of the magnificent Boka Bay.

Lovćen is the symbol of Montenegro and its freedom. The mountain is located at 1749 m above sea level, and in 1952, it was declared a national park. On one of the peaks of Lovćen, Jezerski vrh – 1675 m above sea level, there is a Mausoleum, dedicated to Petar II Petrović Njegoš bishop, ruler, thinker and poet, one of the most important figures of Montenegrin history. Lovćen is special in many ways. It is rightly said that Lovćen is a natural treasure of Montenegro.

At the foothill of  Lovćen, at  900 m above sea level, there is the most famous Montenegrin village Njeguši, where the Petrović dynasty comes from, which ruled for 300 years by Montenegro.

Tara River is known for its clean water as the “tear of Europe”. With a length of 146.4 km it is the longest river in Montenegro. Its clear and icy water can be drunk in any part of the stream. It is one of the most attractive rivers in the world, created for lovers of adventure and active vacation. The last 25 km of Tara river and the canyon represent the most attractive part for rafting with beautiful landscapes and 20 most exciting rapids. 

The Tara canyon is the deepest in Europe (1.333 m deep), and the second in the world after the Colorado canyon in America. The largest part of the Tara River, including its canyon, is under the protection of UNESCO as part of the Durmitor National Park since 1977, and it is one of the 25 most important natural sights.

Kolašin is a town in the north of Montenegro, 72 km away from Podgorica. It is at 954 m above sea level and offers excellent holidays in winter and summer. In Bjelasica there is a well-known ski resort just a few kilometers from the city. Many people call this city an aerial spa due to the height and extraordinary climatic conditions.

A special attraction for tourists is the National park Biogradska gora, the first declared national park in Montenegro in 1952 and it occupies an area of ​​ 5650 ha. Its protection dates back to 1878, when this area was given to the lord of Montenegro Prince Nikola Petrović, and it has since become the “Knjažev zabran” – ‘’Prince’s reserve’’. The most important natural value of this national park is the rainforest of Biogradska gora, which covers an area of ​​1600 hectares.

In the heart of the forest there is a beautiful Biogradsko lake, the largest and most famous of many glacier parks in the area of ​​the national park. The rich flora and fauna of the National park Biogradska gora made it very interesting and attractive to many scientists, scientific observations and studies, as well as sightseeing tours and visits of nature lovers.

Podgorica is the capital of Montenegro located in the center of this country, at the intersection of several important road directions that lead from the sea to the continental part of the country. It is the main administrative, political, economic, traffic, scientific and educational – cultural center of Montenegro. It offers a wide range of discoveries to visitors through cultural heritage, archaeological sites, monuments, museums, and through nature in a national park, active holidays, views of canyons, rivers and bridges, as well as enjoyment of traditionally produced food and wine. In Podgorica there is one of the largest and most beautiful vineyards in Europe – ’’13. Jul Plantaže’’, covering 2,300 hectares, and all who visit the ‘’Šipčanik’’ basement have the opportunity to experience the impressive ambience of a unique wine cellar in Europe, enjoying the unforgettable smells and tastes of Montenegro.

Virpazar is a small fishing village, located on the road between Podgorica and the Montenegrin coast, at the confluence of the river Crmnica and Orahovica in the lake. In the past, it was a strategically important trading city but today this place serves as the main gate in the Skadar Lake National Park. It is also recognizable by local wines, which you can taste in family vineyards and cellars in the center and the surrounding area.

Skadar Lake is the largest lake in Montenegro and on the Balkan Peninsula, with an area of ​​369.7 km² (of which Montenegro has 221.8 and Albania 147.9 km²).                  The Montenegrin part of the lake with the coast was declared National Park in 1983.The lake has many islands and peninsula with traces of history and valuable cultural heritage: Žabljak (15th century) – the capital of the Crnojević dynasty, Lesendro – fortress on the rock at the lake, the borderline of the Montenegrin army in the era of Njegoš, the fortress Grmožur – the Montenegrin Alcatraz, in the period when Nikola Petrović ruled. The lake has 18 important historical monuments that witness to Montenegrin history from the 11th century to the present. The lake is known for its diversity of flora and fauna. Skadar Lake is a bird’s paradise, it has 264 bird species, and about 90% of them are migratory and of international importance. This is the only pelican habitat in southern Europe. The lake is an ideal location for observing birds because it is the largest bird reserve in Europe.

Bar is a maritime city in Montenegro located in the south of the country, between the Adriatic Sea and the Skadar Lake. It is a city with a large number of cultural events during the summer period, such as concerts, exhibitions, books promotions, children’s festivals, sports tournaments, etc. Harbor Bar is the largest Montenegrin port.

Old Bar is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. Its streets are cross-country guides, from Greek colonies to the Middle Ages, the rule of Venetians to the Turkish period and up to the new era.

Near the town, there is a monument of the nature of the Old olive tree, an olive tree between 2,000 and  2,500  years old – the oldest tree in Europe, and also one of the oldest trees in the world.

Itinerary

We will welcome you to the airport, and then head towards Budva, the beauty of the Adriatic.

Accompanied by a guide, you will see the Old Town, which respires with unity, walk in the winding streets, enjoy the view of the late Middle Ages squares that form a whole with solid ramparts, their towers and city gates, Orthodox and Catholic churches – 1h:30min.

Free time for refreshment on one of the beaches.

Check-in 4-star hotel in Budva/Bečići. Dinner. Leisure time. Overnight stay.

Budva is also famous for its nightlife, its squares and streets live deep into the night, so you can’t miss the opportunity and go out already on the first night in some of the famous discotheques or restaurants on the seashore, cafes, pastry shops, taverns. Offer in Budva's restaurants is very diverse, dominated by Mediterranean and Montenegrin national cuisine, while in the foreground there are marine specialties along with unavoidable olives and wine.

Driving towards Perast - 45 min.Arrival at Perast. Easy walk throught this beautiful coastal city. Boat riding towards the island of Our Lady of the Rocks. Visiting the 15th century church and museum (all 1 hour).

Taking ride around unique bay of the Mediterranean – Boka Bay, until we reach Kotor (30 minutes).

Arrival at Kotor. City walk accompanied by a tourist guide throught its Old Town, where you can see its famous monuments and squares - the Arms Market, Saint Tryphon Cathedral and square, Saint Luke’s church and square, Maritime museum and square, Cats square – 1 hour.

Lunch at one of the famous restaurants in the city. Free time. (about 1 hour).

Driving towards Tivat (about 20 min).

Free time for city tour and luxurious marina Porto Montenegro - 1h.

Drive to Budva - about 1 h.

Back to the hotel in Budva/Bečići. Free time. Overnight stay.

Driving towards Bar (lasting about 1h).

Arrival at Bar, visit the temple of St. John of Vladimir, walk along the coast (duration 1 hour).

Visit to the Old Town (duration 1 hour).

Visiting the Old Olive Tree (duration 20 min) - the oldest tree in Europe.

Driving towards Ulcinj (duration 30 min).

Arrival at Ulcinj, visit to the Old Town, Balšića Tower, Slave Market... (duration 1 hour).

Driving to Ada Bojana beach (30 min).

Lunch at some of the traditional fish restaurants or beach enjoyment on the paradise island famous for its unspoiled nature (1h 30min).

Return to the hotel in Budva/Bečići. Free time. Overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel. Check - out.

Driving towards Cetinje for 1 hour.

Visit to the Cetinje monastery. After that, you will visit the National Museum of Montenegro where, besides valuable works of art, a relic is preserved, the former protector of the island of Rhodes and the Sovereign Maltese Order, the icon of the Virgin Philermos.

Continue to the Ostrog monastery (Nikšić municipality). Duration of driving around 1h and 30 min.

Coffee break at the restaurant on the way to the monastery - optional (30 min).

Arrival at Ostrog monastery. Free time for sightseeing of the upper and lower monasteries. In the monastery we will bow to the relics of the great Saint Vasily Ostroški and hear and see incredible tales of Ostrog miracles (about 1h and 30min).

Continue to the Morača Monastery - about 1h and 20 minutes. On the way to the Monastery, we will pass through Podgorica - the capital of Montenegro, where during the panoramic journey you will see the monument of St. Peter Cetinjski, the Parliament, the National Theater, the King Nikola’s and the Russian writer Puškin monuments.

Next we continue the ride along the Morača canyon, known as Platije, one of the most attractive canyons in the region. Mountains that rise steeply above the river formed one of the most interesting landscapes in Montenegro. You will enjoy the view, and we will also take a photo break to capture the beauty of nature.

Arrival at Morača Monastery. Monastery sightseeing - 30 min. Many visitors describe the atmosphere in the monastery as something special. There is a story that the yellow stone from which the monastery was built was brought from the village of Tušina by the formation of a column of people and the stone was passed from hand to hand.

Return to Podgorica - 30 min.

Lunch at the traditional restaurant - 1h and 30 min.

Driving towards Skadar Lake about 30 min.

Arrival at Virpazar, a fishing village with charming stone houses. A short walk. Free time for climbing on the Besac fortress - the most attractive viewpoint on the Skadar Lake, or drinking coffee at one of the restaurants - 20 min.

Start of cruising. The cruise lasts about 2 hours. You will see fishing villages, cultural and historical monuments, the flora and fauna of the lake, and take swim in the lake. For refreshment on the boat, the host will serve us domestic products (delicious donuts, wine, brandy and juice).

After cruise by boat, having lunch at the restaurant in an unrepeatable ambient - 1 h and 30 min.

Swimming in Skadar Lake or some other activity.

Return to the hotel in Podgorica. Free time. Overnight stay.

Driving towards Žabljak - Duration of journey about 2h and 30 min.

Arrival at Žabljak. Tour of the National Park - 2h.

Driving towards the Đurđevića Tara bridge - 30 min.

Enjoying the view from one of the most beautiful bridges in Europe. Free time for refreshment at the bar near the bridge, walking by the bridge, or for those bravest ZIP LINE.
